Jasprit Bumrah will not be able to play in the T20 World Cup because of his back stress fracture

Jasprit Bumrah, India’s top fast bowler, has a back stress fracture and won’t play in the T20 World Cup, according to BCCI sources reported by news site PTI. Because Bumrah “complained of back pain during India’s practice session,” he was forced to miss Wednesday’s opening Twenty20 encounter against South Africa. The Indian team is already without Ravindra Jadeja, so losing Bumrah to the T20 World Cup is a severe blow.
Due to a back issue, Bumrah already had to withdraw from the 2022 Asia Cup. He returned to the Indian team earlier this month and played in the second and third games of the T20I series between India and Australia.
For the T20 World Cup in Australia, a four-man speed bowling attack, which also included Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshal Patel, was named. Since Bumrah is apparently out, India will likely choose between Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar, who have both been listed as standbys for the prestigious competition, to take Bumrah’s place.
Mohammed Siraj, a current county player for Warwickshire, is another name that has recently gained popularity.
Earlier this month, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s knee injury forced him out of the T20 World Cup, dealing another major blow to the Rohit Sharma-led Team India. However, Axar Patel filled in well for him during India’s last T20I matches against Australia and South Africa.
The fact that Bumrah won’t be competing in the T20 World Cup is a huge setback for the BCCI, who went to great efforts to protect the Indian pacer.
Bumrah has played in just three T20Is out of the team’s 24 games so far since India resumed play following the 2022 Indian Premier League.
He took part in six international games for the squad after the IPL, which also included a Test and two ODIs.
Bumrah is regarded as one of the best pace bowlers in contemporary cricket. He has played for India in 60 T20 internationals so far, and his 70 wickets rank second among fast bowlers for India in this format.
