The newest humanoid robot prototype being created by tech tycoon Elon Musk’s Tesla electric car firm has been unveiled.
At a Silicon Valley event, Optimus made an appearance on stage and raised its knees while waving to the crowd.
The CEO stated that although the robot was still under development, it might be available for purchase in a few years.
According to company experts, mass-market robots from Tesla will be evaluated by performing tasks in auto factories.
During the annual Tesla AI Day presentation, the prototype was brought on stage. A video showing Optimus doing straightforward duties, like watering plants, carrying boxes, and lifting metal bars, was displayed to the audience.
According to Mr. Musk, the robots would be mass-produced in three to five years for less than $20,000 (£17,900).
The head of Tesla predicted “a future of abundance.” He went on to say, “It is a fundamental shift in civilization as we know it.
Investors and financial analysts have voiced scepticism about Tesla’s decision to pursue robots, urging it to concentrate on initiatives more closely related to its core competency of electric automobiles.
But Mr. Musk claimed that he wished to address one of the most challenging issues in artificial intelligence: how to create a system that could take the place of a person.
According to Tesla, the entrepreneur who once warned that artificial intelligence might be a threat to civilization, he wants to ensure that the transition to a society in which machines do the labour and people get the benefits is a safe one.
He cautioned against following the “Terminator way,” pointing to the well-known film about a murderous cyborg.
Tesla was implementing safety features, such as an unbreakable stop button, he continued.
According to Mr. Musk, the public company’s shareholders would determine its social responsibilities. The purpose of Tesla’s AI Day is to introduce new products and hire new personnel.
