Kpop Demon Hunters Becomes Netflix’s Most Viewed Film of All Time

Kpop Demon Hunters, an animated musical adventure, has officially become Netflix’s most viewed movie ever, amassing over 236 million views since its release in June and overtaking Red Notice for the top spot.

The surprise global hit has captured audiences worldwide with its blend of high-energy K-pop music, eye-catching animation, and a storyline that fuses modern pop culture with Korean mythology.

A Viral Sensation

Initially released with minimal fanfare at Netflix’s Tudum Theatre in Los Angeles, Kpop Demon Hunters gained rapid traction over the summer through word of mouth, social media buzz, and a wave of viral content that fueled its rise to the top of the streaming charts.

The movie follows the fictional K-pop girl group Huntr/x, whose members double as demon hunters. Using their music and martial arts skills, they fight to protect humanity from supernatural threats. Behind the film’s vibrant soundtrack are industry veterans who have previously worked with top K-pop acts like BTS and TWICE.

Musical Dominance

The film’s songs have become a cultural phenomenon in their own right. The breakout track Golden hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month and remains a top global hit on Spotify, where multiple songs from the soundtrack have broken into the Top 10.

Rival group Saja Boys, fictional antagonists in the film, have also climbed the charts, with their track Your Idol hitting the top of Spotify’s US rankings. At one point, both Huntr/x and Saja Boys became the highest-charting fictional K-pop groups in US Spotify history — outperforming even real-world giants like BTS and BLACKPINK.

In another major milestone, the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack became the first ever to place four songs simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10.

Box Office and Sing-Along Release

To capitalize on the film’s musical appeal, Netflix released a sing-along version in select cinemas across the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand last weekend. The move paid off — it became Netflix’s first film to reach number one at the US box office.

Following its theatrical success, the sing-along version has now been made available to Netflix subscribers worldwide.

Celebrating Korean Culture

Beyond its chart success, the film has been widely praised for its visual storytelling and cultural authenticity. Co-director Maggie Kang, a Korean-Canadian filmmaker, noted that the goal was to create music that felt “legitimately part of the K-pop universe,” appealing both to global fans and Korean audiences alike.

Critics and viewers have applauded the movie for seamlessly blending traditional Korean elements with modern K-pop aesthetics, resulting in a uniquely stylized world that resonates across generations.

A Franchise in the Making?

With its explosive success across streaming platforms, music charts, and now the box office, Kpop Demon Hunters has sparked discussions about sequels and potential franchise expansion. While nothing has been officially confirmed, early talks are reportedly underway for a follow-up film.

For now, Kpop Demon Hunters stands as a cultural juggernaut — a rare crossover success that bridges film, music, and global fandom in one bold package.
