Amit Kumar Sen: Engineering the Backbone of India’s Modern Retail Expansion

In India’s rapidly transforming retail ecosystem, where speed of expansion must align with quality, consistency, and cost discipline, execution excellence has emerged as a defining competitive advantage. At the heart of this shift stands Amit Kumar Sen, a seasoned retail design, projects, and execution leader whose work has quietly but decisively shaped the physical backbone of some of the country’s most recognisable retail brands. Recently recognised as a 40 Under 40 – Industry Leader, Amit represents a new generation of professionals redefining how retail infrastructure is envisioned, built, and scaled across India.

With over 15 years of experience, Amit has built a career at the intersection of design intent and on-ground delivery. Currently serving as General Manager – Projects at Kaya Limited, he leads end-to-end retail execution across India, overseeing everything from design coordination and vendor finalisation to construction management and final handover. His role is critical in ensuring that brand promise translates seamlessly into physical retail environments—on time, within budget, and to exacting quality standards.

Before joining Kaya, Amit played pivotal roles in some of India’s most aggressive retail expansion journeys. His professional experience spans Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd. (Domino’s), ABFRL (Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd.), and Landmark Group, giving him deep exposure across QSR, fashion, and large-format organised retail. This cross-sector experience has enabled him to adapt execution models to diverse brand requirements while maintaining operational rigor.

Over the course of his career, Amit has successfully delivered 550+ retail stores across 50+ Indian cities, managing cumulative project investments exceeding ₹150 crore. These numbers reflect not just scale, but a consistent ability to execute complex, multi-location programs in geographically and operationally diverse markets.

A defining hallmark of Amit’s leadership is his focus on strategic value engineering. By optimising specifications, consolidating vendor ecosystems, and strengthening procurement processes, he has driven 15–20% cost optimisation without compromising on brand aesthetics or build quality. His emphasis on long-term vendor partnerships has resulted in the development of 50+ reliable, high-performance vendors, bringing predictability and efficiency to fast-paced retail rollouts.

Equally important is Amit’s commitment beyond bricks and mortar. He is a strong advocate of process standardisation, MIS-driven decision-making, and people development. By building structured systems and mentoring young project professionals, he has helped create execution teams capable of sustaining scale, not just delivering isolated projects.

Looking ahead, Amit Kumar Sen’s vision extends beyond individual brands. He aspires to elevate execution standards across India’s retail construction ecosystem, positioning operational excellence as a strategic growth lever rather than a back-end function. Recognised by Forbes for his impact and leadership, Amit’s journey underscores a powerful truth: in modern retail, disciplined execution is not just support, it is strategy.
