Breakdancing will be a part of the Paris Olympic games 2024
The international Olympic committee officially added Breakdancing as Olympic sports in the Paris Olympic games 2024. Breakdancing is a crucial part of the hip-hop culture and along with breakdancing 3 other sports were officially added to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The is an initiative by the Olympic Committee, under its new rule to pick and propose popular games in the host cities. The other new sports added to the Olympic along with breakdancing are surfing, skateboarding and sports climbing but these three sports will make their debut in the Tokyo Olympic which got delayed due to coronavirus.
“The International Olympic Committee ratified the inclusion of breakdancing along with surfing, skateboarding, and sports climbing on Monday”, IOC President Thomas Bach said.
The move to add new sports is a move by Olympics game to refresh the sports program. A move to renew the spirit of the game and to attract sponsors and, broadcasters. This will also keep the Olympics relevant in the eye of its sponsors and adding new sports will lure the youngsters towards the game.
What is Breakdancing?
Breaking also called breaking or Bboying is the oldest known hip hop style. It is an energetic form of dance that originated in New York in the 1970s. African Americans were the first to adopt this hip hop style in their dance moves. Breakdancing has evolved drastically with time from simple headspins and backspins to sophisticated power moves. The craze of breakdancing is high in youth. From street corners to the Olympic sports, lovers of this hip hop style ahs carried this style as a lifestyle.
Breakdancing was proposed by Paris organizers. Two years before the sport made its successful debut at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
