The long-awaited and important G-20 summit that India will host has officially begun, with New Delhi announcing on Tuesday that it will take place on September 9 and 10.

From December 1 of this year through November 30 of the following, India will also hold the G-20 presidency. During this time, it is anticipated that India will host over 200 G-20 meetings across the nation.

According to a subsequent announcement from New Delhi, “India, as the G-20 presidency, will be inviting Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain, and the UAE as guest countries, as well as the ISA (International Solar Alliance), CDRI (Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure), and ADB (Asian Development Bank) as guest international organizations.” This will “be in addition to the traditional IOs” (UN, IMF, World Bank, WHO, WTO).

The Group of Twenty (G-20), commonly known as the EU and 19 other nations, is an “intergovernmental forum of the world’s major industrialised and emerging economies.” Since its members jointly “account for 85% of the world’s GDP, 75% of its trade, and 2/3 of its population,” the G-20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation.

The G-20 Leaders’ Summit at the level of heads of state and government is scheduled to take place on September 9 and 10, 2023, in New Delhi. While our G-20 priorities are still being finalised, ongoing discussions focus on issues such as inclusive, equitable, and sustainable growth; LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment); women’s empowerment; digital public infrastructure; and tech-enabled development in fields such as health, agriculture, and education; as well as commerce, health, and agriculture.

Additionally, it stated: “Indonesia, Italy, and India make up the G-20 troika at the moment. India, Indonesia, and Brazil will make up the troika during our administration. Three rising economies and developing nations will make up the troika for the first time, giving them a stronger voice.
