Elon Musk: Twitter hires a top “NBCUniversal” executive.
As Elon Musk continues to reshuffle the leadership of the social media platform, Twitter has hired senior “NBCUniversal” executive Joe Benarroch.
Mr. Benarroch assumes the position on Monday and will concentrate on business operations.
It happens less than a month after Twitter’s new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, the head of NBCUniversal’s advertising department, was announced.
She will take over the job currently held by Mr. Musk, who will keep up his major involvement in the company.
In order to indicate that he will be working out of Twitter’s New York headquarters, Mr. Benarroch has already changed his LinkedIn page.
As part of his announcement, he wrote: “I am looking forward to bringing my experience to Twitter and working with the entire team to build Twitter 2.0 together.”
In his previous position, Mr. Benarroch served as NBCUniversal’s executive vice president for communications, advertising, and partnerships. He had previously worked for Facebook, a major player in the social media industry.
Late last week, rumours surfaced of the resignation of Twitter’s second head of trust and safety, who worked for owner Elon Musk.
Yoel Roth was succeeded as the company’s leader by Ella Irwin in November 2022, one month after Elon Musk assumed ownership of the company. The director of trust and safety is in charge of content filtering, a topic that has drawn interest ever since Mr. Musk took over the firm.
Ms. Irwin may have resigned as a result of unidentified causes. It did so a day after Elon Musk criticised a Twitter content moderation decision in public.
Elon Musk is under pressure to find a new CEO and focus on his other businesses again after spending $44 billion (£35 billion) to buy Twitter. These businesses include the electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla and the rocket company SpaceX.
Ms. Yaccarino was appointed by Mr. Musk as Twitter’s CEO last month.
She will start working for the platform, which has had difficulty turning a profit, in six weeks, according to Mr. Musk, who also announced her hiring.
The platform’s executive chairman and chief technical officer will remain in that position, according to Mr. Musk.
