Here’s an exclusive interview with him.

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a specialist in pediatric oral health care. My interest lies in helping tongue-tie babies using laser technology. I have done certification, fellowship, and advanced proficiency in laser technology since 2009. I traveled to the United States, Canada, China for education and training in lasers, so that I can master the technology and do the best for the babies in India. I have started attending lactation seminars, conferences and became a member of ILCA (International Lactation Consultant Association) ABM (Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine), lactation, and Gold Lactation when the lactation profession was not well known in India. After all this hard-earned training and experiences, I am very proud to declare that I have helped  thousands and thousands of babies and kids with tongue-tie issues that affected their basic life functions like breastfeeding, suck, swallow, breath, speech, sleep, and development of the craniofacial complex.

What were the challenges that you faced initially and how did you overcome them?

To do the best for the babies, using lasers effectively and efficiently. I traveled around the world and attained advanced proficiency in lasers and tongue-tie release, to serve the babies in India. Initially, I was not financially good enough to do certification, buy, and practice lasers. With the help of my family, I have taken loans for my studies, travel, and buy lasers.

What has been your most significant achievement?

I am happy to share that I have achieved lifetime happiness in serving many breastfeeding moms, babies, and kids to overcome their breastfeeding, speech, gag reflex feeding, and sleep issues.

How do you come up with new ideas?

Yes, the need to help to breastfeed dyad, tongue-tied babies, and kids. New ideas popped up in terms of technology to create a new box.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

All my teachers, mom, dad, school & college laser mentors and tots professionals.

What motivates you?

Two things in life are precious, one is giving birth and the next is breastfeeding. Once I needed to consult a kid for his teeth pain. His mom had a 46-day old baby. She was trying to explain his elder sons’ teeth pain issues, but the baby was crying continuously for feeding. Then I asked mom to feed. She said she needs formula feed. Then I asked her why not breastfeeding, she said she has severe pain, cracked nipples, etc. I was not having any clue, I just checked for natal teeth. But I saw the tongue was not able to lift and had some problem with tongue movements. Then checked with literature and again called the parents and said your baby has a tongue-tie. They did not listen to me. But the same parents came after 2 years for the baby’s oral examination. That time I asked what they do for the tongue tie issue they said they released tongue-tie under GA (general anesthesia).

What does a typical day look like for you?

Starts with a morning WhatsApp message stating “Hi dr, my baby is 28 days old having an issue with breastfeeding. I have pain during bf and cracked nipples. I have consulted a few health care professionals.” But all said this is how painful the bf journey is and tongue ties have nothing to do with breastfeeding. Some said it gets corrected by itself and some said we can treat it after 2 years. I came to know about you and how you helped my friend who had the same issues during her lactation with her tongue tie baby. I would like to get your consultation ASAP (SOS).

Who do you look toward for advice?

From my wife, parents, friends, and some from my children. Mainly from breastfeeding mothers, teachers, and mentors to refine my service.

How do you define success?

The dynamic process towards changing states.

Life kinematics towards state change.

Growth and development.

What are your growth plans for the next 12 months?

  1. Create Public awareness about “BFOH – Breastfeeding is the Foundation for Overall Oral Health”.
  2. Provide affordable treatment using world-class technology and holistic care for babies with tongue-tie.
