Football: Liverpool, Chelsea qualify for Champions League
Chelsea and Liverpool will join Manchester United and Man City in the Champions League after securing top-four finishes on the final day of the Premier League season, with Leicester City missing out.
Liverpool and Chelsea have qualified for the Champions League after a dramatic final day in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp’s side did what they needed to do by beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at Anfield, but Chelsea were left thanking fierce rivals Tottenham for a favour.
The Blues were beaten 2-1 at Villa Park leaving their destiny out of their own hands, but Leicester’s 4-2 defeat against Spurs meant Brendan Rodgers’ side missed out on European football’s premier club competition by a solitary point.
It leaves the Foxes in the Europa League, where they join West Ham who secured a sixth-placed finish by beating Southampton 3-0 at the London Stadium.
Unfortunately for FA Cup winners Leicester, a 4-2 home defeat against Tottenham let Chelsea off the hook after they lost 2-1 at Villa Park – and a 2-0 win for Liverpool saw them finish third.
