Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has tested positive for COVID-19 in the ongoing tour of England and will not travel with the team to Durham as it reassembles for next month’s Test series against the hosts

Pant had turned a positive result more than a week back and is asymptomatic, a report in the Sports Tak noted. It’s worth remembering that Pant was among the attendees at the Wembley stadium to watch an England vs Germany Euro match on June 30. On Wednesday, Britain also recorded the highest number of daily infections since 15 January at 42,302. Catching the match live from the Wembley stadium, Pant had posted a few photographs along with a caption saying: “Good experience watching.

The BCCI source further said that he is in isolation and will not travel to Durham with the team on Thursday. He did not specify when Pant would join the Indian team. This matter came to the fore when BCCI Secretary Jay Shah sent an email to the Indian team to be alert about the increasing corona cases in England.

“You must be wearing a mask. What message are you conveying to the people who follow you? Soch badlo to desh badlega. Anyways be safe,” wrote a well-wisher.

The news comes in the wake of BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently sending an e-mail to the Indian contingent in the United Kingdom warning it about the rising cases of COVID-19. The side is to reassemble at Durham in a bio-bubble ahead of the Test series against England next month.
