Liam Payne’s cause of death has been confirmed

Liam Payne’s cause of death has been confirmed as “polytrauma” in a UK inquest. The 31-year-old pop singer died after falling from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A hearing at Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court on December 17 noted that it may take time to determine the exact circumstances of his death.

Five people have been charged in connection with Payne’s death, including the hotel manager, a receptionist, and his friend, all charged with manslaughter. Two other hotel employees have been charged with supplying cocaine.

Dr. Roberto Victor Cohen confirmed Payne’s cause of death as multiple traumatic injuries. The inquest was adjourned until a pre-inquest review in November, with Coroner Crispin Butler noting that ongoing investigations in Argentina may delay the process of gathering necessary information.

Payne was formally identified with the help of funeral directors in Buckinghamshire. His funeral, held in Amersham, was attended by family, friends, and former One Direction bandmates, including Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan. Following his death, tributes from his bandmates described Payne as a “positive, funny and kind soul” and an “incredible songwriter with a great sense of melody.”
