Limited-edition Apple sneakers are available, priced at $50,000
Sotheby’s auction house is currently offering a unique pair of Apple trainers for sale for a staggering $50,000 (£38,969). Crafted exclusively for employees during the 1990s, these shoes were a limited edition giveaway at a conference, making them incredibly rare as they have never been available to the public before.
The standout feature of these sneakers is their predominantly white leather upper, adorned with the vintage rainbow Apple logo on both the tongue and alongside the laces, making them highly coveted among sneaker enthusiasts and Apple fans alike, as noted by Sotheby’s. The rarity of the trainers contributes significantly to their value on the resale market, with the auction house describing them as one of the most obscure items in existence.
While these Omega x Apple sneakers are listed as “new in the box,” it’s worth noting that they do have some imperfections, including yellowing around the midsoles, likely due to their age and limited exposure to light.
The shoes boast air cushioning windows in the heel, providing added comfort, and come in a US size 10.5, European size 41, or UK size 8.5. Additionally, the box includes an alternative pair of red laces, offering a touch of customization for the lucky buyer.
Apple collectibles and memorabilia have seen a surge in value over the years, with retro gadgets fetching high prices among collectors. For instance, a first-edition, unopened 4GB iPhone was auctioned for over $190,000 (£145,000) in the US, demonstrating the fervour surrounding Apple-related items.
Although Apple is renowned for its groundbreaking technology and innovations, the brand has occasionally ventured into the realm of clothing and accessories. In the past, there was an Apple clothing line featuring the iconic rainbow logo and Macintosh computer imagery, comprising T-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. However, this venture did not achieve widespread success and was eventually discontinued.
For Apple employees, there have been exclusive Apple Park jackets designed for those working at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, providing a sense of belonging and pride in being part of the Apple community.
