Rockstar Unveils the GTA VI Trailer Set in Vice City Paradise
After a decade of anticipation, Rockstar has finally dropped the trailer for the highly anticipated sixth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series, set against the backdrop of a Miami-inspired Vice City. Breaking the news 15 hours earlier than planned due to an online leak, the trailer introduces Lucia, the series’ first female protagonist, entangled in a tale of love and crime with an unnamed male lead.
The teaser, pointing towards a 2025 release, prolongs the suspense for eager fans who have long speculated about the sequel to the 2013 blockbuster, GTA V, which ranks as the second best-selling video game globally, following Minecraft.
Rumors and leaks about GTA VI Trailer have circulated for the past decade, heightening the anticipation surrounding any news related to the game. The release of the trailer, considered an “announcement of an announcement,” stirred global headlines in November, showcasing the immense anticipation among fans.
Originally developed in Dundee in 1997 by DMA Design, now known as Rockstar, the GTA V has seen both critical acclaim and commercial success, albeit not without controversy, as evidenced by inquiries in the House of Lords regarding the violent content of the first game.
The trailer offers glimpses of high-speed car races, boat parties, and a man extracting an alligator from a swimming pool. The prolonged development period is attributed to the overwhelming success of GTA V, which sold a staggering 190 million copies worldwide. James Binns, chairman of gaming media firm Network N, emphasised the game’s epic scale, deeming it potentially the most expensive game ever made.
Acknowledging the game’s 25th anniversary, Rockstar’s president, Sam Houser, timed the December trailer release strategically. Rockstar has struck a deal with Netflix to bring iconic titles like GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas to the streaming platform’s gaming offering, available to subscribers on mobile devices starting December 14th.
