Shubman Gill scores another century as India defeats New Zealand to clinch the T20 series
Shubman Gill maintained his outstanding performance from 2023 with an undefeated century as India defeated New Zealand by 168 runs and won the T20 series 2-1.
India reached 234-4 in Ahmedabad thanks to Gill’s 126 from just 63 balls. The opener now has three centuries, a dual century, and a 50 in twelve innings this year, making him the fifth Indian player to reach the century mark in all three international formats.
Then, as New Zealand was skittled for 68, Hardik Pandya scored 4-16.
Within just his 6th appearance, Gill became the 7th player from India to score a hundred in a T20 match.
At the age of 23 years and 132 days, during an exciting triumph against New Zealand in Hyderabad last month, Gill became the youngest man to hit a double century in a one-day international.
His ferocious assault, which included 12 fours and seven sixes, served as the foundation of India’s innings and featured a 103-run alliance for the fourth wicket with acting captain Pandya, who scored 30 runs off only 17 deliveries.
A quick 44 from Rahul Tripathi and a quick 30 from Suryakumar Yadav helped India post a commanding target.
To keep up with the efficiency level, New Zealand needed to get off to a quick start. However, they lost four wickets within the first 16 balls of their innings, falling to 7-4. Two innings later, Michael Bracewell was removed, leaving the Kiwis in trouble at 21-5.
The visitors have dismissed for nothing in just 13 overs thanks to two wickets each from Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, and Arshdeep Singh.
The only other Black Caps player to reach double figures was Mitchell Santner (13), and he was the only one to show any opposition, scoring 35.
