The president of the US is planning to invite Indian Prime Minister Modi for a state dinner
President of the United States Joseph Biden intends to welcome Indian PM Narendra Modi for a state dinner, according to a report.
While the administration promotes policies and initiatives for an open and free “Indo-Pacific” to address what it perceives as a growing threat presented by China, the ceremonial state visit is a demonstration of the developing US-Indian alliance.
India will organize the summit of the group of 20 leaders in New Delhi in the month of September, where the attack on Ukraine by the Russian military will be the central subject of the conversation. Russian President Vladimir Putin did not confirm whether he was going to attend the event or not.
When the leaders of Japan, Australia, and India meet in May in Australia for the “Quad Summit,” Biden is expected to see PM Modi there.
Biden will host his third official dinner party and state visit with PM Narendra Modi after hosting those for the president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, on April 26 and the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, in December.
As part of the Initiative on “Critical and Emerging Technologies,” the US and India last month launched a proposal to trade cutting-edge electronics and defence technologies, including the joint production of “General Electric Co.” jet engines.
The US and its allies would like to see India speak out more against Putin’s conflict in Ukraine. By lessening New Delhi’s historical reliance on Moscow for military hardware and increasing China’s assertiveness, the alliance on crucial technology is meant to counterbalance Russian influence in India. US political figures from both parties have tried to improve ties with Modi.
“The China-Russia parts are legitimate, but so is the concept of establishing a vibrant, democratic environment of high technology,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters when introducing the partnership.
“Geopolitics, while not an afterthought, falls short of properly explaining the situation at hand.”
