Kieron Pollard Becomes Third Man To Hit Six Sixes Over Over Cricket World Cup
West Indies white football captain Kierer Pollard on Wednesday became the third person to hit six sixes in an international match during the opening of the T20I against Sri Lanka. Pollard followed in the footsteps of South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs (2007 World Cup against the Netherlands) and India’s Yuvraj Singh (2007 T20 World Cup against England) to achieve this extraordinary match. Akila Dananjaya was the shooter who accepted the attack, as Pollard separated him freely. Pollard had four runs off 4 balls when he decided to launch Dananjaya’s attack, which was gratifying that in his previous overrun he had caught a trick that put strangers in the back foot.
The other turned the tie back to support the home team and they will eventually be able to win the game by 4 wickets with 41 balls.
Earlier in the first innings, Sri Lanka made a distance of 131-9 as their batsmen struggled from the walk.
The visitors are battling it out with the 2012 and 2016 world champions numbered with 41-year-old Chris Gayle, playing his first West Indies game in two years.
Pathum Nissanka marked his first match in Sri Lanka with 39 points from 34 balls with four points and only one in six of his team.
The 22-year-old batsman shared a 51-wicket run with Niroshan Dickwella (33) who opened the first match.
However, the visitors have never touched the West Indies’ direct attack that included 39-year-old fast bowler Fidel Edwards returning to the team for the first time since 2012.
Left-handed bowler Obed McCoy, playing just in his third T20 International, had a 2-25 lead in his four overs.
Jason Holder finished 1 to 1 economically and there was also the wicket of 21-year-old off-spinner Kevin Sinclair who opened the bowling and also sought the wicket of Danushka Gunathilaka.
