Britney Spears and her long-term boyfriend, Sam Asghari, have confirmed their engagement.

On Instagram, the singer shared a video of the couple showing off the ring.

Spears is suing to get her 13-year conservatorship, which governs her personal life as well as her finances, lifted.

She revealed that the agreement forbade her from marrying Mr. Asghari or having more children. Concerns about the singer’s mental health led to the conservatorship arrangement being imposed in 2008.

Mr. Asghari also shared a photo of the ring as well as the couple kissing. Brandon Cohen, his manager, confirmed the engagement to People magazine. “Today, the couple made their long-standing relationship official, and they are incredibly moved by the outpouring of support, commitment, and love,” he said.

In 2016, the couple met on the set of a music video.

Mr. Asghari, a 27-year-old actor and personal trainer, was born in Tehran, Iran, but came to Los Angeles when he was 12 years old.

He described landing in the United States without knowing any English in an interview with Forbes earlier this year: “It was obviously a culture shock, coming out here with a completely different language to speak.”

Spears, 39, has been married twice. In 2004, she married Jason Alexander, a childhood acquaintance, in Las Vegas, but the marriage was shortly dissolved.

Later that year, she married dancer Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children. In 2007, the couple divorced.

Jamie Spears, the singer’s father, filed documents in a Los Angeles court last week to have the conservatorship lifted. She had attempted to remove him from his position twice in the previous two years.

Britney Spears has called her father’s treatment of her “cruelty” in the past. She informed a judge in July that she wanted to accuse her father of “conservator abuse.”

Jamie Spears now has power over his daughter’s estate and other elements of her life, according to a court-ordered conservatorship. Due to health difficulties, Mr. Spears stepped down as conservator of his daughter’s personal affairs in 2019, but he remained to oversee her commercial interests.
