Changi Airport Regains Title as World’s Best Airport for 12th Time

Singapore’s Changi Airport has been named the world’s best airport for the twelfth time, according to the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023. The airport has regained its title, edging Doha’s Hamad International Airport into second place, which had held the top spot for two years running at the height of Covid travel curbs. Tokyo’s Haneda Airport bagged third place. The rankings were based on a survey of 20.36 million customers across 550 airports worldwide.

Lee Seow Hiang, Chief Executive Officer for Changi Airport Group, said: “Changi Airport is honored to be named World’s Best Airport for the twelfth time. This recognition is a great encouragement to our airport community, who stood firmly together to battle the challenges of Covid-19 over the past two years.”

The awards recognize the best airports across various categories such as cleanliness, security, customer service, shopping and dining facilities, and more. The survey was conducted from August 2022 to February 2023, covering airports across 112 countries.

Paris Charles de Gaulle was the top performer from Europe, up one spot to fifth place. Istanbul airport climbed up two spots to sixth place. Munich airport moved up one spot to seventh place. Zurich airport remained in eighth place, while Tokyo Narita airport dropped one spot to ninth place. Madrid Barajas airport made a significant jump to the tenth place from last year’s 26th place. Vienna airport fell two spots to eleventh place. Helsinki-Vantaa airport dropped one spot to twelfth place. Rome Fiumicino airport slipped three spots to thirteenth place. Copenhagen airport dropped one spot to fourteenth place. Kansai airport climbed two spots to fifteenth place, while Centrair Nagoya airport fell one spot to sixteenth place. Dubai airport fell four spots to seventeenth place. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was the highest North American airport, at 18th position, but up from its 27th place last year. Melbourne airport climbed two spots to nineteenth place, while Vancouver airport dropped one spot to twentieth place.

Changi Airport has been a consistent performer in the rankings, having held the top spot in the awards for ten consecutive years from 2013 to 2022, except for 2020 when the awards were not held due to the pandemic. The airport has been known for its state-of-the-art facilities, including a butterfly garden, rooftop swimming pool, and 24-hour cinema. Changi Airport has also been a hub for connecting flights, with more than 100 airlines flying to over 380 cities worldwide.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards are considered one of the most prestigious accolades in the aviation industry, as they are based on the opinions and experiences of customers. The awards provide an opportunity for airports to benchmark their performance against their peers and identify areas for improvement.
