Ian Gelder, best known for his role as Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones, has passed away at 74. His extensive career included appearances in Torchwood, His Dark Materials, Doctor Who, Snatch, and The Bill.

Gelder succumbed to bile duct cancer, as revealed by his husband and fellow actor Ben Daniels on Instagram. Daniels praised Gelder’s talent and described him as a pillar of strength.

Gelder’s bravery in facing his illness was acknowledged, with Daniels expressing gratitude for Gelder’s kindness and love. Gelder’s impact as an actor resonated with many, notably through his portrayal of Kevan Lannister across five seasons of Game of Thrones.

His final appearance was in an episode of BBC One’s period detective series Father Brown earlier this year.
