MrBeast overtakes T-Series for most YouTube subscribers
In the ongoing competition for YouTube subscribers, MrBeast has emerged victorious over T-Series, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s history. T-Series, a prominent Indian music label renowned for its trailers and music videos, had maintained its position as the largest YouTube channel for five consecutive years until it was surpassed by MrBeast on a Sunday.
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, was already a prominent figure on the platform with the largest individual following. However, his recent achievement of amassing an unprecedented 269 million subscribers solidifies his status as the top channel on YouTube, surpassing T-Series and surpassing all other competitors by a considerable margin. With nearly 800 videos to his credit, MrBeast has garnered widespread recognition for his daring and extravagant stunts, ranging from giving away private islands to staging real-life versions of popular entertainment franchises like Netflix’s “Squid Game”.
In a celebratory post on his platform X, MrBeast expressed satisfaction in “avenging” YouTube star Felix Kjellberg, popularly known as PewDiePie, by surpassing T-Series’ subscriber count of 266 million. Notably, MrBeast’s channel achieved this milestone with its largest-ever daily spike in subscribers, surpassing 2 million new subscribers on a single Saturday.
T-Series had initially claimed the title of the largest YouTube channel in 2019 after surpassing PewDiePie, a victory that was acknowledged by the Swedish YouTuber in a music video where he humorously remarked, “all it took was a massive corporate entity with every song in Bollywood”. MrBeast’s ascendancy to the top spot on YouTube further solidifies his influence and prominence on the platform, as well as his considerable wealth.
Apart from his main channel, MrBeast also operates several other channels dedicated to gaming, philanthropy, and reacting to various content, each boasting tens of millions of subscribers. His philanthropic endeavors, in particular, have garnered attention, with his channel description emphasizing his propensity to give away substantial sums of money to individuals in need.
Forbes estimated MrBeast’s net worth to be around $500 million in 2022, ranking him first on its list of the top 50 creators in 2023. His success has garnered praise from influential figures like Elon Musk, who has actively encouraged MrBeast and other content creators to post on his platform X (formerly Twitter). Additionally, MrBeast’s recent achievement is expected to be well-received by Amazon, which has reportedly signed him to a TV deal worth up to $100 million, further solidifying his status as a prominent media figure.
