Taylor Swift in ‘total shock’ after knife attack
Singer Taylor Swift has expressed that the knife attack at a dance workshop themed around her music, which resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to nine others, has left her “completely in shock.” The attack, which targeted children and adults at an event on Hart Street, Southport, occurred on Monday.
In an Instagram post, Swift admitted she was “at a complete loss” for how to offer her sympathies. The horror of the incident, which left two children dead, six critically injured, and three others hurt, has been overwhelming for her. Swift described the “loss of life and innocence” and the “horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone present” as deeply distressing.
In response, Swift’s fans have raised over £20,000 for the victims’ families through a crowdfunding effort. A separate initiative, “Swifties for Southport,” has collected more than £51,000 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where many of the injured are being treated. The Taylor Swift UK & EU Facebook group has stated that the funds will support the hospital’s charity and aid both the victims’ families and the funeral costs for the two young children who lost their lives.
The group is collaborating with the hospital to “raise money for the families affected by this tragedy” and ensure that every donation helps make a difference during this time of profound sadness. Additionally, two adults were critically injured in the attack. A 17-year-old from Banks, Lancashire, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The motive for the attack remains “unclear,” but authorities do not consider it to be terror-related.
